Community Café

The Community Café serves three free meals a day, seven days a week to shelter residents and anyone else in Durham who is hungry. Due to COVID-19, all meals are being prepared to-go until further notice, though we're looking at options for reopening the Café for limited dining as stay-at-home orders are eased. This space has been renovated extensively during the past year and is a hub of activity on campus. In addition to meal service, it is also used for enrichment programs, partner workshops and to show movies and sporting events to residents. Volunteers provide 90% of the labor to prepare the meals, and community partners donate 80-90% of the food. On weekdays, we offer a convenient bag lunch picked up at breakfast to help ensure that guests who are headed to work -- or busy trying to obtain housing or employment -- do not miss a meal. In Fiscal Year 2018-2019, the Community Café served more than 228,000 meals.
